Points to remember :
1). A fraction comprises two numbers i.e. Numerator and Denominator separated by a horizontal
line.
2). A fraction is the simplest form when the HCF of the numerator and denominator is 1.
3). Fractions having the same denominators are called like fractions and the ones with different
denominators are called unlike fractions.
4). A fraction having a numerator as 1 is called a unit fraction.
5). A fraction whose numerator is smaller than its denominator is called a proper fraction.
6). A fraction whose numerator is greater then or equal to its denominator is called an
improper fraction.
7). A fraction that is a combination of whole number and proper fraction is called a mixed
fraction.
8). When the two fractions having the same denominators are compared, the fraction with the
greater numerator will be the greater fraction.
9). When two fractions having the same numerators are compared, the fraction with the
greater denominator will be the smaller fraction.
10). Two fractions having different numerators and denominators are compared by making the
same denominator.
11). Fractions with denominators 10, 100, 1000, etc. are known as decimals or decimal fractions.
12). A decimal number has a whole number part and decimal part separated by a decimal point.
13). Zeros to the extreme right side of the decimals do not have any value.
14). Two decimals having the same number of decimal places are like decimals and decimals
having different decimal places are unlike decimals.
15). To add or subtract decimals, it is easier to convert them as like decimals and then add or
subtract as we do for the whole numbers.
