WORD PROBLEMS ON PERIMETER :
CLASS 6TH ,7TH , 8TH :
Q.1) Find the perimeter of the rectangular lawn whose length is 20m 50cm and breadth is 12m 20cm.
SOLUTION : Rectangular Lawn
Given : Length =L = 20m 50cm =20.50 m
Breadth =B = 12m 20cm = 12.20m
Perimeter of rectangular lawn =?
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 *(L+B)
P = 2 * ( 20.50 + 12.20)
P = 2 * 32.70
P = 65.40 m
P = 65m 40cm
ANS : The perimeter of the rectangular lawn is 65m 40cm.
Q.2) How much does Shamim has to walk to go around a square field of side 10cm ?
SOLUTION : Square Field
Given : Side = 10cm
Distance covered by Shamim = ?
Distance covered = Perimeter of square field
Perimeter of square = 4* side
P = 4* 10
P = 40m
Ans : Shamim has to walk 40m to go around a square field of side 10m.
Q.3) How much wire is required to fence a rectangular field of 1Km long and 500m broad ?
SOLUTION : Rectangular Field
Given : Long = Length = L = 1Km = 1000cm
Broad = Breadth = B = 500cm
Length of wire required to fence the field =?
Length of the wire required to fence = Perimeter of rectangular field.
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 * ( L+B)
P= 2 * ( 1000+500)
P=2 * 1500
P= 3000m.
P= 3Km. ( 1Km =1000m)
Ans : The wire required for fencing is 3 Km.
Q.4) Find the cost of fencing a square park of side 12m on three of it’s sides as the wall of the adjoining house acts as a boundary on one side. The rate of fencing is Rs. 30 per meter.
SOLUTION : Square park
Given : side = 12m
No. of sides of fencing = 3
Rate of fencing = Rs. 30 per m
Cost of fencing the park on 3 sides = ?
Step 1 : Length of fencing = No. of sides * side
= 3 * 12
= 36m
Step 2 : Cost of fencing = Length of fencing * Rate
= 36 * 30
= Rs. 1080
Ans : The cost of fencing the square park is Rs.1080.
Q.5) A piece of string is 36cm long. What will be the length of each side if the string is used to form the following shapes ?
1) an equilateral triangle
2) a square
3)a pentagon
4) a regular hexagon
SOLUTION (1) : An equilateral triangle
Given : Length of the string = 36cm
Find it’s side = ?
Length of the string = Perimeter of equilateral triangle = 36cm
Perimeter of equilateral triangle = 3 * side
36 = 3 * side
36 / 3 = side
12cm = side
Ans : The length of the equilateral triangle is 12cm.
SOLUTION (2): Square
Given : Length of the string = 36cm
Find it’s side = ?
Length of the string = Perimeter of square = 36cm
Perimeter of square = 4 * side
36 = 4 * side
36/4 = side
9cm = side
Ans : The length of each side of a square is 9cm.
SOLUTION (3) : Since pentagon is not regular, it is not possible to find the length of it’s sides.
SOLUTION (4) : A Regular Hexagon
Find it’s side = ?
Length of the string = Perimeter of regular hexagon =36cm
Perimeter of regular hexagon = 6 * side
36 = 6 * side
36/6 = side
6cm = side
Ans : The length of the side of regular hexagon is 6cm.
